FIFA has suspended Pakistan from international football for an uncertain period of time owing to “third-party interference.”

The suspension prohibits Pakistan national team from taking part in international competitions and the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) from benefiting from the FIFA training and development programs.

By the term “third-party interference” FIFA means that, the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) offices and its accounts are under the control of a court-appointed administrator. Which violates FIFA statutes to manage its (PFF) affairs independently, without influence from any third parties.

The ban comes as a further hit to Pakistani football. The men’s national team has not played a game since the draw 0-0 versus Yemen in 2015, which made their world ranking go down as far as 200.

Pakistan football has been in the doldrums since elections of the Pakistan football association held in April 2015 after which they split into two factions heading into a presidential poll. Both factions claiming victory the matter went to the Lahore High Court which appointed an administrator to run football affairs until the case was decided.

FIFA said the suspension will be lifted once the PFF offices and access to the PFF accounts are returned to the PFF.
