POTUS Donald Trump is facing growing hatred from the sports world after his criticism on NFL players. On Friday, during his speech in Alabama Mr Trump said the National Football League (NFL) should fire players who protest during the US anthem to the crowd.

High-profile football players as well as basketball star LeBron James have attacked Mr Trump in response. Triple NBA champion LeBron James, one of the sport’s foremost stars, labelled the President a “bum”.

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a ***** off the field right now, out, he’s fired. He’s fired!’” Trump said while his speech.

One NFL team owner said Mr Trump’s comments were “offensive” but Mr Trump has gone on to repeat his criticism.

Responding to Trump’s attacks on football players who protested during the national anthem, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said on Saturday Trump’s statements revealed “unfortunate lack of respect” for the NFL and its players.

But Trump stands in his statement and doesn’t feel guilty, instead he responded on Roger Goodell’s words. Trump tweeted, ” Roger Goodell of NFL just put out a statement trying to justify the total disrespect certain players show to our country.Tell them to stand!”

The NFL has seen a surge in activism by players since former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick last year refused to stand for The Stars and Stripes in a protest against law enforcement aggression against minorities.
