Kidambi Srikanth defeated the Olympic medalist Viktor Axelsen 14-21, 22-20, 21-7 to enter the semi-finals of Denmark Open badminton.

Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth won in the quarterfinals of Denmark Open Superseries on Friday and managed to enter the semifinals by defeating World No.1 local player Viktor Axelsen by 14-21, 22-20, 21-7 in 55 minutes.

The game was initially in the hands of Viktor Axelsen as Srikanth lost the first set. However, Srikanth managed to hop back into game and take other two sets in his name and managed to enter into semi-finals.

Amidst Srikant’s victory, other Indian shuttlers Saina Nehawal and H.S. Prannoy lost in the quarter-finals of the Denmark Open World Superseries Premier on Friday.

Saina lost her last-eight match in straight games to the defending champion Akane Yamaguchi of Japan by 10-21, 13-21 , while Prannoy lost to top seed Son Wan-Ho of South Korea by 13-21, 18-21.

As Saina and Prannoy have exited, all hopes are on Srikanth to win the tournament.

Olympic silver medalist and World No.2 shuttler P.V Sindhu was dismissed earlier in the first round of tournament by Chinese Chen Yufei losing 21-17, 23-21.

Srikanth will meet the winner of the quarter-final between Vincent Ki Wing Wong and Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in the semi-finals.
