CSK and Royals will replace RPS and Gujarat Lions from the next edition of IPL

Fans of Chennai Super Kings & Rajasthan Royals can cheer as their favourite teams are going to make a comeback in IPL 2018.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman, Rajeev Shukla confirmed that Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) and Gujarat Lions (GL) will not get an extension for the next season and suspended IPL franchises, Rajasthan Royals, and Chennai Super Kings will be back.

“No extension is being given to both the teams (RPS and Lions). The agreement was only for two years. Even if we make it a 10-team league, the two new teams would have to be freshly bid, so they (RPS and GL) are not being given any extension or anything,” Shukla told media persons.

Shukla also added that if RPS and Lions have to play in 2018 season, then it should be done through a fresh bidding process.

“Next year, as per SC order, the two (suspended) teams would be back. The issue of whether 8 or 10 teams will come up at the IPL GC meeting. So far the plan is to go ahead with 8 teams. A 10-team league has to be endorsed by the Governing Council.” Said Shukla

Its is said earlier that all players were supposed to go back in to the auction pool after completing the 10th season of IPL  but Shukla indicated that retention policy may still be considered.so there is a possibility to implement retention policy which will enable the franchises to retain their most valuable players.
